Schwalbe Racing Ray & Racing Ralph

Racing Ray and Racing Ralph

It says it right in its name — racing. The casing is light. so light that you can see sunlight through the tan walls when held up to the sun. The tread compound is soft and supple, but feels like it has less deformation support under load than a more substantial tire. The siping is such that the tread smears as it grips.

We tested the Racing Ray

In both the 29-inch and 26-inch versions (pictured on the right). We found the tire to be just adequate in most trail situations; best on hard-pack and groomed XCO courses.

Schwalbe Racing Ralph clogged by clay and mud. Jammed the wheel in the frame with mud.

Schwalbe’s Racing Ralph

Doesnt shed mud, the type of mud that sticks everywhere and clogs up the entire frame. It clings onto the sidewall and refuses to release from the casing.

Racing Ray clogged with mud.

The Racing Ray

Fared no better. It also clogs with mud.

The tires do well on loam

There’s ample grip and recovery from any off camber movements and rider inputs.
