Race RECAP: Racer J @ 2022 TBF Granite Bay
6 months passed since my first race in Nevada City, CA. I had my new-at-the-time 2021 Scott Scale Team Issue AXS for all of three months, and I was ready for my next race. I used the 3 months between October and New Years to ride, get used to the new bike, set up the dropper post and cockpit, tune the fork air spring and damper, and learn how to use my new weapon. By January I was raring to go and signed up for the TBF MTB kickstart.
Granite Bay is nestled on the western shore of Lake Folsom, CA. The terrain is a mix of huge granite boulders and chaparral interspersed between dense oak tree forests. The morning’s start lined up on the bank of Lake Folsom as the dawn sun brought slight relief from the frigid temperatures of the 7 AM race start.
The Scott Scale was almost completely stock. This first race I ran with Racing Ray & Racing Ralphs mounted tubeless @ ~20psi. The bike also had a PNW 150mm dropper post by now. The dropper post would prove to be a necessary tool on this course.
